<p>I like to start my back workouts with a big basic compound exercise like the bent over barbell row. This exercise works the entire back from the lats, traps and spinal erectors as well as the biceps and forearms as secondary muscles.</p>
<p>When you do bent over rows bend over at a 45 degree angle and pull the bar towards your stomach. Maintain a slight arch in your lower back as this will help you get a better muscle contraction as you perform the exercise.</p>
<p>Next I like to move on to pull downs. These work the back from a full range of motion. You&#8217;ll get a good stretch in the lats at the beginning of each rep, and you&#8217;ll also get a peak contraction at the end. </p>
<p>I&#8217;ll vary the grips that I use from time to time to work the back from different angles. Here in the video I&#8217;m using a v-bar attachment which is good for adding width to the back.</p>
<p>Using a wider grip will work more of the middle back and using a closer grip will work more of the outer back. It&#8217;s the opposite of what most people think. But try it out for yourself your next back workout and notice where you feel the muscles working with different width grips.</p>
<p>After pull downs I&#8217;ll move on to a chest support row. Here in the video I&#8217;m using the Hammer Strength Machine which distributes the weight between both sides equally. </p>
<p>I like using the chest supported rows in my back workouts because it is a much stricter rowing movement then a free standing row.</p>
<p>Chest supported rows provide both a good stretch at the bottom of the lift and a peak contraction at the top.</p>
<p>To really pump up my lats at the end of a back workout I&#8217;ll include bodyweight rows. This exercise is like an inverted push up. </p>
<p>I like to include bodyweight exercises in my workouts because they provide a greater level of neuromuscular activation. Moving your entire body through space makes an exercise much more demanding then just moving your limbs.</p>
<p>Try them out for your next back workout and you&#8217;ll see what I mean. You&#8217;ll feel a deeper level of muscular fatigue compared to regular rowing exercises.</p>
<p>To finish off my back training I&#8217;ll do some work for the lower back. Hyper extensions are one of my favourite lower exercises. They provide a good stretch at the bottom and a full contraction at the top.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll start off with holding a weight plate to my chest for 10-15 reps. Then I&#8217;ll put the weight down and continue with another 10-15 reps with just my bodyweight. I&#8217;ll do 3 sets in this fashion.</p>
<p>For all the other back exercises I&#8217;ll do 3 sets of 8-12 reps after warming up.</p>
<p>Hyper extensions are also a great finishing exercise to do after a leg workout because in addition to working the lower back they also heavily work the glutes and hamstrings.</p>

<p>In this video Im going to go over a total body workout routine that you can do using just bodyweight exercises.</p>
<p>The first exercise is the basic push up.<br />
Push ups are great for building up the chest, shoulders, and triceps. They also bring the muscles throughout the mid-section and core into play as stabilizers to keep your body straight.</p>
<p>Here in the video both my self and my better half Patricia are doing the workout set for set.</p>
<p>Youll notice that here on the video we are doing the push ups with our hands placed on an exercise matt. This tends to make the exercise more comfortable then if you did them with your hands placed on the hard floor.</p>
<p>You can vary your hand spacing and positions with each set to work the muscles from different angles. Wider hand spacing tends to place more stress on the chest. And a closer hand spacing tends to focus more on working the triceps.</p>
<p>Were doing our bodyweight workout in a circuit routine fashion. Moving quickly from one exercise to the next. Only resting long enough for the other person to complete their set.</p>
<p>Here Im doing bodyweight squats. This is a great exercise that works the entire lower body from the quadriceps, hamstrings, hips, and glutes. When doing squats youll make the exercise a lot harder and get more benefit if you use a full range of motion and squat all the way down.</p>
<p>Here you can see Patricia doing bodyweight squats from a side angle. Youll notice that her upper thighs go down part parallel with the floor. This is what is referred to as a full squat.</p>
<p>When doing bodyweight squats you can hold your arms in whatever way feels best to you. You can hold them to the front as shown here, or you can keep them down by your sides.</p>
<p>Next we are moving on to bodyweight rows. I normally like to do this exercise in the smith machine as it keeps the bar more solid, but here on the video were doing them in the squat rack and holding the bar in place for each other so it doesnt slide or rotate.</p>
<p>Place your feet up on a flat exercise bench as shown in the video and then row yourself up until your torso touches the bar. This can be a tough exercise for beginners and will most likely take some getting used to.</p>
<p>Really focus on keeping your body straight throughout the exercise, dont let your hips sag down. It will help if you arch your back and expand your chest, almost as if you were trying to bring your chest up to meet the bar.</p>
<p>You can target different areas of the back depending on where you row. Pulling your stomach to the bar will work the lower lats more. And pulling your chest towards the bar will work more of the upper back and rear delts.</p>
<p>Now were moving on to one of my favorite abdominal exercises. Decline bench sit ups. This exercise is one of the best ab exercises because it works all areas of the mid-section, from the upper abs, lower abs, and obliques.</p>
<p>The steeper the decline on the bench, the hard the exercise will be.</p>
<p>Well, there you have it a complete total body workout using just your bodyweight. Like I mentioned before, go through each of the exercises in a circuit fashion, and then repeat the entire circuit again. A good goal to work up to is to perform 100 total reps of each exercise.</p>
<p>Bodyweight exercises are a quick and very effective way to stimulate some new muscle growth. Give this bodyweight circuit routine a try in your own workouts.</p>

I&#8217;d have to say that pull ups are one of the best exercises to do.</p>
<p>#1 Wide grip pull ups<br />
#2 Upper body controlled pull ups<br />
#3 Behind-the-neck pull ups<br />
#4 90 degree leg lift pull up</p>
<p>Regular pull ups work your back and also your shoulders.  The wider the grip you have, the wider your lats will be.  If your hands are close together, then you will be focusing on your trapezius muscles.</p>
<p>Doing chin ups (hands facing inward) will work your back but also pump your biceps.</p>
<p>The controlled pull ups (can be referred to as &#8220;Brooklyn Pull Ups&#8221;) requires a strong back, chest, and shoulders in order to sway left to right and vice versa.</p>
<p>The 90 degree leg lift pull ups are a killer workout for your abs.  Make sure to keep your legs straight out for maximum results on your abs.</p>
<p>In my next video I will perform Muscle-Ups.  My goal is to hit 5 in a row.  </p>
