How can I reduce period pain?

posted by admin on March 29th, 2013

I get bad period pains all throughout the month, and they stop me from carrying out daily activities, such as studying, working, etc. Does somebody know a good way to relieve the pain? Preferably an easy home-made remedy or solution of some kind?

My friend used to use a hot water bottle on the cramps. I curl up in a ball and use a heating pad. Also a nice hot bath with Epsom Salt (about 1/3 of the carton) you can also add lavender or rosemary to the bath water to calm you. Ibuprofen works. Try chamomile and/or ginger root tea too (I drink Ginger Ale too). Hope one of these relieve your cramps.

I drink a fair amount of water (not too much or you’ll make yourself sick) or take two magnesium (it helps with muscle tension) on its own or with two advil (or panadol, some pain reliever). I heard once that dark chocolate is also meant to help – I’m not sure if it does though.

Oh and at night a warm heat pack might help (place it on your lower abdomen). If the pain is really bad, try a warm bath and if you don’t have one, try a shower.

If possible go for a job/run/walk everyday like between your periods.
This really helps and brought my pain down to nothing.
Then take women’s tylenol if you need them. Use a hot water bottle on your tummy and take a hot shower.

I went on the pill 2 years ago because of the same problem and it was the best thing i did…. i rarely get period pain.

also evening primrose oil twice a day during ur period…

It sounds strange but exercise actually works. I do starjumps, and it eases the pain abit 🙂

Also, try a hot waterbottle. Either lie on your stomach and put the hot waterbottle on your lower back for a while, or sit down, bend your legs and rest it between your stomach and thighs.

Eating bananas can also help because they’re high in potassium.

I only get pains on the first day of my period now (whereas I used to get them all week), and then I don’t have them until my next one, so see if it works for you 🙂

    Good luck!
